Back to the CVS and Walgreens Games

I haven’t posted recently about my adventures at Walgreens and CVS. I’ve made one transaction at each store in the past few weeks. I really have to get on my game and start taking advantage of their willingness to pay me to take useful products off of their hands. I pledge to stay more on top of my game and to take advantage of these deals. I should never pay for soap, shampoo, cleaning products, etc. As always I find all of my deals atThe Thrifty Mama and Money Saving Mom. Check out those two sites of you have interest in taking advantage of the Walgreens and CVS games.

During the last week of January Walgreens was offering a black ink printer cartridge refill for $5. At the same time, the January EasySaver Catalog was offering a $5 rebate on the cartridge refill. In the end, I paid $5.50 after tax for a printer cartridge refill and will receive $5.50 on a Walgreens gift card as a rebate (the extra 10% is for receiving my rebate on a Walgreens gift card, I will detail the ExtraSaver Catalog in a recent post). I will take a free cartridge refill any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Total out of pocket: $6.85

Total in rebates: $7.15

I definitely did bad at CVS during my most recent trip. The two items that I was planning on buying were not available. Additionally, my ECBs were expiring that day, which meant I had to use them or I was going to lose them.

Going into my trip I had 10.99 in ECBs. I walked out with $4.50, $0.50 of which were earned from cumulative fall spending. I purchased a bottle of Listerine Whitening that was on sale for $6.79 and printed out a $4.00 ECB stub. I bought a 24ct pack of Excedrin Migraine for $1.99, but had a $2.00 manufacturer coupon. Finally, I bought a 2 pack of rockstar energy drink, which I thought was going to provide me with 4.99 in ECBs. I was sadly mistaken (kinda like ARod), as I apparently needed to purchase two 2 packs. In the end, I spent 0.94 out of pocket and earned $4.50 in ECBs. From now on, I will use my ECBs more frequently so I don’t get flustered and go backwards with my ECBs.

Total out of pocket: $8.39

Total ECBs: $4.50

Total value of items purchased: $55.72

My wife actually makes fun of me because I love to shop at CVS. Getting the Sunday paper to read the ad is like Christmas morning for a kid. I am not sure what other blogs you check out for others using CVS, but there are whole networks of people who never pay a dime shopping there. Amazing!

It sure is amazing. I try to spend as little out of pocket, but there has to be minimal amounts spent out of pocket to get the game going. I am by no means an expert and I appreciate the blogs that plan out the coupons and deals for me. I get the Sunday paper just for the coupons and Ads and my girlfriend makes fun of me because I don’t actually read any sections of the paper. I save more than it costs to buy the paper though, so it works out.
